Lauded as one of the most beautiful small towns in Georgia, Madison is full of charm, tree-lined streets and stunning architecture. In fact, this small town has one of the largest historic districts in the state.
"When you think of a quaint Southern town with magnolia trees and antebellum homes, Madison—60 miles east of Atlanta—is just that."
Architectural Digest
What better time to explore the magic of Madison in May than the Spring Tour of Homes & Gardens, when the azaleas are blooming and the parks and gardens are a vibrant green?
For more than 75 years, Madison’s Tour of Homes has welcomed visitors into the city’s architectural treasures, continuing a tradition that began in 1950 with Miss Kittie Hunter Newton of Madison’s own La Flora Garden Club.
Now, Madison-Morgan Cultural Center (tour host) invites guests to explore a curated collection of the city’s finest and most architecturally significant historic homes and private residences through this beloved self-guided experience. With architecture dating to the early and mid-nineteenth century, visitors are often drawn to Madison and quickly fall in love with the town.
“The 2026 Spring Tour of Homes offers a rare opportunity to step inside some of Madison’s most remarkable private residences and gardens, many of which are seldom open to the public,” said David Nunn, Managing Director of the Madison-Morgan Cultural Center. “Designed as a self-guided experience, the tour invites guests to move at their own pace while discovering the stories behind the architecture that defines our historic district.”
The featured home on this year’s tour is Boxwood, built in 1851 for Wilds Kolb and one of Madison’s most storied historic homes. Surrounded by boxwood gardens believed to have been designed by an English landscape architect, the house was remarkably advanced for its time. Other homes include a renovated early 20th-century Craftsman by one of Georgia’s first female architects, a charming Georgian cottage with a custom addition, and a delightful 1900s Folk Victorian residence.
